I created this piece during the latest protests of the Black Lives Matter movement. This subject remained taboo for a long time – and it often still is. That is what I wished to depict thanks to the pocket watches covering the character’s eyes.
Watches freeze this need for change which has been expected for a long time, as well as the inertia we have consented to by not mobilising. Some have been considering this piece as a strong symbol, stuck up on walls by the protesters or worn on T-shirts during the protests. It was also the promotional image of an antiracist event held in Basel, and was then sold in an auction. The benefits from the sale were given to an organisation fighting against racism and for the Black Lives Matter movement.
